BUSINESS MANAGER
Dobson Pipe Organ Builders, Ltd. is a privately-held Iowa corporation founded in Lake City, Iowa, in 1974. The company's primary business is the construction of new pipe organs for an international market and secondarily the maintenance and repair of existing pipe organs in the upper Midwest. Lynn Dobson, founder and corporate President, was the company’s sole owner until 2012, when a corporate succession plan was put in place; under it, present minority owner John Panning, corporate Vice President, will become sole owner in 2020.
Due to the impending retirement of longtime colleague Kirk Russell, Dobson is seeking an experienced, motivated individual for its Business Manager position.
Position Summary
• Oversees the financial operations of the company
• Oversees and maintains accounting systems, procedures and policies, and performs (or causes to be performed) general accounting functions
• Ensures accurate and timely compilation, analysis and reporting of accounting data
• Prepares budgets and reports for Management Team
• Maintains all legally required records
• Provides tax, insurance, and other reports required by governmental regulations.
Essential Functions
• Performs accounting and business functions (A/P, A/R, P/R, G/L, Job Cost, Inventory, Depreciation)
• Prepares company payroll
• Prepares monthly, quarterly and yearly financial statements, and reports of work in process for Management Team
• Provides financial information to company's accounting firm for income tax filings.
• Prepares (or causes to be prepared) client contracts
• Obtains and maintains all necessary or contractually required insurance
• Develops company schedules and maintains company calendar in collaboration with the Management Team
• Administers company-provided insurance and benefits plans
Many of these functions are carried out in cooperation with the Administrative Assistant.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business-related field
• Five years' accounting or small business management experience, preferably in manufacturing
• Knowledge of general accounting principles and practice
• Energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image
• Computer skills, including expertise with Microsoft Excel and Word. Experience with Macintosh computers and HansaWorld, the company's integrated accounting software, is a plus.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries
• Well-organized, self-directed and collaborative
