28 February 2008
Today our longtime coworker Meridith Sperling retired after twenty-three years. Chiefly involved in the construction of windchests, the racking of pipes on those windchests, and packing the pipes for shipment, Meridith also assisted in making metal pipes and was a frequent helper for tuning and service work. We’ll miss her.

R.H. Grabau Construction, Inc., the builder of our new shop addition, received the 2007 Masters Award for projects under $1 million from the Master Builders of Iowa, a trade association. Our business manager, Kirk Russell (second from right), and his wife Debbi attended the award ceremony at the Des Moines Convention Center on 8 February.

To celebrate the completion of our new addition, we swept up the sawdust, laid out a table of cookies, and invited the neighbors. On this Sunday afternoon, seven hundred people toured the shop, which represents about 40% of the population of Lake Cityan organ builder in Boston would have an attendance of a quarter of a million persons to equal that percentage. In fairness, it must be said that some of our visitors came from neighboring towns. On Saturday, the day previous, a group from Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis came to see Op. 86, now under construction for their Chapel.
